July 15, 2010, a Thursday
near Crested Butte South, Colorado, USA
— Photographed wildflowers up Cement Creek
I got up around my normal time and it was sunny and calm. I had my normal breakfast but made instant coffee to go and J started a mug of tea steeping and we left in the Jeep around 8:25.
We headed up Cement Creek mainly to scout the area. We stopped to photograph some Green Gentian or Monument Plant that was in the shade. I didn't get any great images of them, but then we stayed there to photograph other species and I got some great shots of the American Vetch (far left) and Richardson's Geranium (near left). We had a ball!
We continued heading up Cement Creek and stayed on CR-740 at the Y. The wildflowers were petering out so we turned around and started to head back.
We stopped to photograph some Jacob's Ladder (far left) and Rocky Mountain Red Columbine (near left). There was a slight breeze by then, so a lot of patience was required to capture these two images, but it was definitely worth it!
Good for one flat iron steak steak or four chicken breasts. We returned to the RV around 12:20 and our neighbor greeted us as we pulled in. Actually, she was flagging down anyone that went by to see if they had jumper cables to jump her Tahoe. We had a set and I promptly jumped her car. She was impressed by the length of our jumper cables.
I had lunch around 12:40 and I downloaded the images from this morning and went through my mail. Then I downselected the images from this morning in Capture One (C1). I made a batch of Teriyaki Marinade, but made some alterations. First, we didn't have any cooking sherry so I used Marsala, and I was distracted while adding the ginger and orange peel and just put in way too much. The changes ended up creating a good marinade, so I've claimed it as my own. I poured the marinade over a Flat Iron steak in a gallon (3.8l) Ziploc bag and let it sit. I took care of some things in response to the mail, then finished the blog entry for two days ago. J prepared some of her Grilled Squash, then I started the grill and did the honors. I started to work up a blog entry for yesterday.
We had dinner around 6:10 of the grilled flat iron steak and J's Grilled Squash. It was awesome. The steak was probably the best flat iron steak we'd ever had — practically indistinguishable from a fillet! I must say that my new marinade was good too, and J's Grilled Squash was delicious.
After dinner, I secured J's pencil holder on the wall by her workspace using two 5/8-inch #12 screws to assist with the super lock that was no longer locking so super. Then I finished the blog entry for yesterday and processed four images for it. Then I downselected the images from this morning some more in Capture One (C1).

I'm starting to think that when it warms up, the Super Lock adhesive doesn't do its job too well. Of course, it's been up there for two years, and after all the dirt roads we've been on, it's entitled to jostle itself loose. ;) |
