September 29, 2010, a Wednesday
Uinta National Forest, Utah, USA
— Fantastic dinner at Jean Louis' Restaurant in Park City
We got up around our normal time. It was clear and sunny outside, as forecast, so we decided to stay in the RV. After my normal breakfast, I worked up a blog entry then tilted our solar-electric panels to increase the amount of solar electricity they would produce. Then I processed images for a stock submission.
I had lunch around 11:50 and read some of the September Outdoor Photographer. Then I processed more images for a stock submission, and it was nice to be able to process a bunch of images today. The two images below are some of the favorites that I processed from our visit to the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, California, in November 2008. The juvenile Double-Crested Cormorant is spreading its wings to dry (below left) and the juvenile Brown Pelican is in the midst of shaking itself off to dry while in mid air (below right).
Around 2:35, I stowed the solar-electric panels so they'd continue to be effective later in the day, then we prepped our laundry and left in the Jeep around 3:10.
We went to Ying's Laundry in Park City around 3:40 to do our laundry. After we got it started, J went online using her USB stick and I left in the Jeep.
I went to a bank to deposit a check. Only one teller was working, and she must have been helping the customer refinance the debt of a small country — it was taking forever. So, when the drive-up teller finished with the cars at the window, I walked outside and went through the drive-up window on foot.
I returned to Ying's Laundry in plenty of time to put things in the dryer, then I left on foot and walked ...
To the nearby Verizon Wireless Store to play with a Droid X some more. I had to wait for the saleswoman to finished with some other customers, and then discovered that the Droid X that they had for me to play with wasn't activated so I couldn't download and play with Fliq Notes to see if had been updated to make it usable for me and so that I could upgrade my phone. The saleswoman lent mer her Android-based phone, an HTC Droid Incredible, for me to download and play with Fliq Notes. As I was trying to concentrate on that she gave me a hardish sell on the Droid X and also my USB stick. Fliq Notes hasn't been updated yet, so an Android phone isn't for me yet.
I returned to Ying's Laundry and waited for the laundry to finish drying. We folded up most of our things then left around 5:35.
We went to Jean Louis' Restaurant in Park City for dinner, and Jean Louis himself was waiting for us out on the patio. I started off with a glass of Kendall-Jackson Sauvignon Blanc to go with the bread that was served with a roasted garlic bulb in warm oil and balsamic vinegar. The wine was tasty (J even liked it!) and so was the bread, garlic, and dip — mmm. Both J and I ordered the Les Escalopines de Veau (Veal Piccata with Fresh Pappardelle Pasta), and it was delicious! The veal was fork tender and the piccata sauce was perfect! We split an order of Tiramisu for dessert even though I was leery of the description — it shouldn't be served with coffee ice cream and coffee sauce. Fortunately, it was served on a really wide plate so that the tiramisu was on one side and the coffee ice cream and coffee sauce was on the other side. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the tiramisu was excellent — one of the best I've had in the US! The piece was small, and I was tempted to get a second order, but I refrained. Our meal at Jean Louis' Restaurant was one of the best we've had in a long time! We left around 6:55.
We stopped by the Post Office in town then went to a Maverik gas station to fill up the Jeep at $2.919/gal.
We returned to the RV around 7:45 and I tilted the solar-electric panels to have them ready for the morning. We put away our laundry and I looked at GPS units on eBay before going to bed.
