September 16, 2010, a Thursday
Uinta National Forest, Utah, USA
— Photographed along American Fork Canyon and Mill Creek Canyon
I got up around my normal time and pussyfooted around the RV until J awoke. I worked up a blog entry and then had my normal breakfast after J got up. We left in the Jeep at 8:35.

We headed up American Fork Canyon for the first time and went to Silver Lake. The lake wasn't photogenic, so we headed back and stopped to photograph the wonderful color on the side of Box Elder Mountain (left).

We returned to the RV around 11:30. I downloaded the images I took this morning and downselected them in Capture One (C1).

I had lunch around noon and we looked at maps of the area to plan where to go photograph for the next few days. I worked on a blog entry and processed two images for the blog. I tried running the Windows-based updater for our Garmin eTrex Venture HC GPS, and the application didn't see the GPS even though Parallels showed that it was attached to the Windows environment. :( We prepped our computers and left in the Jeep around 3:55.

We went to the IKEA in Draper, primarily so we could pick up a Grundtal wall-mounted Q-tip holder. We also picked up two Hessum area rugs to replace the ones we picked up at Target on December 26, 2009 and a Beryll 12VDC swiveling halogen light to put over the bed so J can read in bed without using a head lamp. We left around 5:25.

We went to the Fazoli's in Draper for a quick dinner. I had Baked Lasagna and J had the Sampler. We left around 5:55 and continued heading north on I-15.

We went to Mill Creek Canyon for the first time, and I was surprised that they only allow bicycles on the road on even-number days. There were some nice patches of maples and aspens, but the canyon was really narrow so it was practically impossible to take a picture of the grand scene. We found several intimate scenes, including a maple that was mostly orange (left). We stopped at the entrance kiosk on the way out (you don't have to stop on the way in) to "pay" by showing our Interagency Annual Pass that's valid for National Parks and National Forests, and we were surprised to find out that the pass isn't valid because the road's maintained by the county. Fortunately, there's an unofficial one-time free visit for folks like us who aren't aware that our pass isn't valid there. Usually there's a $3 fee per entrance, and they also have their own annual pass.

We went to a Barnes & Nobel in Cottonwood Heights around 7:50 to use their free Wi-Fi. The speed wasn't the best, but free is always nice. We left around 9:55!

We stopped at the Smith's Marketplace in Highland to fill up the Jeep at $2.879/gal with no discount. :( Usually at King Soopers, another Kroger affiliate, you get 3¢/gal off all the time with your club card. At Smith's, you don't get anything off unless you spend $30 (a 5¢ discount) or $60 (a 10¢ discount).

We returned to the RV around 11:05 and went to bed.
