August 13, 2010, a Friday
near Gould, Colorado, USA
— Worked in the RV then checked out the Laramie River Road
I got up before J around my normal time and started to work on a blog entry. After J got up, I had my normal breakfast and ordered a Galleyware 12-pc. Non-Stick Cookware Set, a Silicone Lid that works on pans up to 10 inches (25.4cm) in diameter, and a Universal Lid that works on pans up to 12 inches (30.5cm) in diameter.
We had gotten notified that the Mile High Wildlife Photography Club (MHWPC) monthly competition winning images for August were posted on the website, and J checked the results. J's Cotton Candy (below left) came in 1st in the Scenic category and my Bare Tree At Sunrise (below right) came in 2nd in the Scenic category. I must say that I like J's image better too. J also got an Honorable Mention in the Wildlife category for her Swift Fox Interaction (far below left) and placed 2nd for her Kaleidoscoped Blackbird (far below right) in the Open category. J created the latter with a Photoshop action that turns a pie-shaped section of an image into something you would see through a kaleidoscope. The original starting image, from which a very small pie-shaped section was taken, can be seen here.
I finished the blog entry and looked at some things on eBay.
I had lunch around 1:00 and read through part of the July 2010 Popular Photography. I helped J set up her Loc-Line-based flash supports for her hummingbird photography setup. Then I finished assigning final file names and converting the RAW files to TIFFs from my recent images.
We had dinner around 6:05 of grilled hotdogs (for J) and bratwurst (for me) with chips and salsa. J said the hotdogs (Farmland Jumbo Deli Style Franks) were the best she'd had in a long time.
We left in the Jeep around 6:45.
We headed up over Cameron Pass and went down the Laramie River Road. We've seen moose along that road before and were hoping to see some tonight. We saw lots of people camping, but no moose.
On our way back to the RV, we stopped to watch a nice bull moose near the top of Cameron Pass. It was too dark to photograph it, so we just watched for a while.
We returned to the RV around 8:45. I backed up some data then processed the recent blog images, that now had final file names, for a stock submission.
