July 30, 2010, a Friday
near Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, USA
— Processed images then photographed at Bellaire Lake
We took it easy this morning and it was nice and cool in the RV when we got out of bed. I had my usual breakfast then did some things online. I processed images for a stock submission.
I had lunch around 12:30 and read the rest of the July 2010 Outdoor Photographer. Then I processed more images for a stock submission. There was a short rain shower around 2:30 and it rained heavily around 4:00. I did some computer work before fixing dinner.
We had dinner at 5:50 of Bertolli Italian Sausage & Rigatoni and leftover garlic breadsticks.
We left in the Jeep around 6:25 and ...
Went to Bellaire Lake. We walked around the small lake to scout photographic possibilities, then we got out our camera gear. J photographed Blue Columbine near the parking lot and I photographed Fireweed (below left) along the lake. My composition was inspired by an image J made when we were near Crested Butte. Then we photographed the clouds over the lake as they lit up around sunset (below right). I would have liked to have had a rock or two in the foreground in the lower right to have something other than a basic reflection, but there weren't any available without wading out into the lake to get on the other side of some trees right at the shore. I used a two-stop graduated neutral density (ND) filter and aligned the soft transition with the far shore to balance the exposure between the bright sky and the reflection.
We returned to the RV around 8:35. After downloading the images I took, I downselected them in Capture One (C1).

Hi you guys! Sounds like your summer has been great so far! We have ended up within a few miles of each other at times. Romain and I wanted to invite you to stop by some time when you are planning to be near Buena Vista. We would love to see you, see your rig, and hear some stories from the road! There's plenty of room for you to boondock at our place! Have a great day, and we hope to see you some time! Reb Babcock 719-221-9684 |
