July 29, 2010, a Thursday
Fort Collins (E&SilJ) to near Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, USA
— Breakfast at Lucile's, visited with E, then headed back to the mountains
We were rudely awakened around 5:25 by the sound of a trash truck picking up a nearby dumpster, and it took a while for us to get back to sleep.
After that, we slept much later than usual. :) We left in the Jeep and ...
Went to Lucile's for breakfast around 9:35. I had Farmer's Eggs and coffee and J got a Cheese Omelet and tea. The food was good as always. We ordered a Cheese Omelet to take back to E and J also bought some loose-leaf tea to go.
We returned to E&SilJ's (J's daughter E and son-in-law J's) and I called the REI store in Fort Collins to see if they had any large bottles of Campsuds in stock and they didn't. I think REI is phasing it out because I haven't been able to find any for the last few months. E suggested that Dr. Bronner's soap might be a suitable substitute and pointed out that it's available in grocery stores. I tried some of the Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree soap that they had, and the consistency and effectiveness were good, but the scent was too potent for me — both J and I prefer unscented items. E mentioned that they also make a Baby & Sensitive Skin version that we might like. We left around 12:05 and ...
Went to King Soopers to do some grocery shopping. I looked for the Dr. Bronner's Baby & Sensitive Skin soap, and they didn't have that version.
Then we filled up the Jeep at a Loaf 'N Jug at $2.529/gal using our 3¢/gal discount.
We returned to the RV around 1:05. I had a Clif Bar and a banana for lunch and we both checked our email and did other things online for a bit.
We went inside to visit with E some more around 2:00.
We said good bye to E and returned to the RV around 3:10. We got one last internet fix and left around 3:25 as it started to rain with me in the RV and J following in the Jeep.
We stopped on the north side of town to hook up the Jeep to tow, and by then the rain had practically stopped.
We headed north on US-287 then took CR-74E. J loved the rocky, hilly scenery as we drove towards Red Feather Lakes. We were both happy to see lots of wildflowers along the road.
We found a nice place to boondock in the Roosevelt National Forest and had set up camp by 5:45. We we pleasantly surprised to discover the strong Verizon Broadband Access signal — what a perfect place to camp! I started to work on a blog entry and J started to make dinner.
We had dinner around 7:10 of J's special pasta sauce with Italian sausage over bowtie pasta and some fresh-baked Pillsbury Garlic Breadsticks. We had some fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies for dessert. It was so nice to be back up in the mountains where it was cool and we could cook without having to worry about generating additional heat. It had been stinking hot and humid down in Fort Collins, so grilling was perfect there yesterday.
After dinner, I finished up a blog entry then did some computer work. I won an Apple Magic Mouse that I had sniped on eBay.
