— Alaska Highway Day 11: Stuck in Whitehorse
Well, it was actually nice to be stuck in Whitehorse for the weekend. I could get a lot of work done to get this website ready and J could get a lot of images processed. Plus, we had time to have a big breakfast this morning: Denver omelete, potatoes, watermelon, OJ, and coffee. Well, I had my usual LavAzza coffee and J had her usual tea. "Usual tea" is a bit of a misnomer because it's rather special tea. She gets the loose tea from Lucile's restaurant in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Every few days, she bags it herself and adds a dab of cinnamon oil to it to kick it up a notch.

Had dinner of grilled potatoes and marinated top sirloin steaks. The steaks were on the tough, not nearly as good as the flatiron steaks we usually get. However, that was the best we could do here at the Extra Value in Whitehorse.

You might be wondering how I know the various departure and arrival times that I report. Well, I keep a running log on my Palm Treo 755p. I've been keeping a log on a Palm of one sort or another since mid 2002. I started with a Vx, then had a Tungsten T, then a Tungsten T3. When I was about to replace the T3 with another one after the character recognition area started to go flakey, J suggested that I get a Palm smart phone so that I wouldn't have to carry around two devices. I had thought of that before, but I didn't want to give up the Graffiti input of a regular Palm because I was very fast and could write on the Palm while driving because I could easily keep my eyes on the road and not on the Palm. Right after I got the Treo, I tried using Graffiti through Tealscript, but the lack of a dedicated character recognition area really made either entering text or running the normal applications very awkward. So, I stopped using Graffiti and Tealscript and switched to using the small keypad. While I've gotten good at entering text with the keypad, I do have to look at the keypad, whereas I could enter text through Graffiti without looking at the Palm.
