August 29, 2010, a Sunday
Portal to Tucson (BLM), Arizona, USA
— Moved down the road
We got up around our normal time and I vacuumed the inside of the RV while it was cool and we were still connected to shore power. Then I showered and had my usual breakfast. I processed three images for the blog then started to work up a blog entry.
I had lunch around 12:15 and finished up the blog entry. I did some computer work then went inside the Portal Lodge to settle the bill. We prepped the RV to move, hooked up the Jeep to tow, and got underway around 2:30. We had delayed our departure to take advantage of the free Wi-Fi and the shore power to run our air conditioner.
We headed north on NM-80 then got on I-10 heading west. I listened to an episode of Car Talk.
We stopped at a Fry's Food & Drug in Tucson at 5:45 and unhooked the Jeep. We left in the Jeep and ...
Went to a Claim Jumper around 6:25 for dinner. J had a coupon for a free entrée for her birthday. I had Grilled Salmon ("Our Salmon is flame grilled and brushed with garlic herb butter. Served with roasted vegetables and one side choice" — bismati rice) and J had a bowl of Potato Cheddar Soup ("Fresh baked potatoes chopped and simmered with Tillamook cheddar topped with potato crisps and chives") and an Organic Spinach Salad ("Tossed with crunchy noodles, diced red onions, tomatoes, crisp bacon, feta cheese, glazed pecans, sesame seeds and our signature citrus vinaigrette dressing"). The fish was good and J loved her soup and salad. She also got a free Red Velvet Cupcake for dessert, and I helped her eat it — mmm.
We returned to the RV around 8:10, put away the leftovers, then ...
Went into the Fry's Food & Drug to do some grocery shopping. We left around 8:45 with me in the RV and J following in the Jeep.
We reached our favorite boondocking spot on some BLM land near Tucson around 9:10, and we were the only ones there. Usually, there are about a dozen other people in the area, but maybe all the smart people are avoiding it when it's so hot. We went online using the fast Verizon Broadband Access signal to check email, etc, before going to bed early.
