July 18, 2010, a Sunday
near Crested Butte South, Colorado, USA
— Photographed wildflowers along Cement Creek Road
We got up around our normal time and it was calm outside with great clouds. I had my usual breakfast then made instant coffee to go and J started a mug of tea steeping. We left in the Jeep around 7:35. and the power steering made a huge racket. :(
We headed up Cement Creek Road to photograph wildflowers. We stopped at a hillside with lots of Scarlet Gilia or Fairy Trumpet, a species I've been wanting to photograph. I just love the small flowers which are about 1.5 inches (3.8cm) long. They form in rows along the stalk, and the plants where I was didn't have any interesting clusters of blooms so I focussed my attention on single blooms (left). While there, I also photographed One Sided Penstemon (below left) and an unknown plant with tiny white flowers (below right). The clouds started breaking up and the wind picked up before I had the opportunity to photograph the Blue Flax that was also there.
We left and headed back to the RV, and the power steering wasn't making as much noise any more.
We returned to the RV around 9:10 and J spotted a large area where we had been leaking fluid last night. I downloaded the images I took this morning then downselected them in Capture One (C1). J also looked at her images. She wasn't happy with the way one of her compositions worked out and she wanted to go back.
I had lunch around 12:20 then worked up a blog entry. A short, but heavy, rain shower started around 1:45, and brought with it some cooler temperatures. I processed images for a stock submission.
We had dinner at 5:35 of leftover Panko-Crusted Pork Chops, Grilled Squash, and Broccoli Slaw. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at the feeder on the other side of the window by our dinette, and a female Rufous Hummingbird came for the first time.
We left in the Jeep around 6:40, and the power steering was completely gone. There was no longer any noise, but there was no power assist either.
We drove back up Cement Creek and went to the area where J photographed this morning. Well, I thought I parked the Jeep near where she photographed, but I didn't. I happened to park near a Mariposa Lily, so I photographed that while J went to find her favorite Scarlet Gilia. She couldn't find that particular plant and was really disappointed. I joined her and found some Scarlet Gilia that I liked (far left). The breeze was light and intermittent, so photography was slow going and the mosquitoes enjoyed our presence. After I finished with the Scarlet Gilia, I saw some Western Monkshood. That's another flower that I really like, and I hadn't photographed any yet this year, so I braved the mosquitoes in the dwindling light to get some images of it (near left).
We returned to the RV around 8:30. I downloaded the images I took this evening then downselected them in Capture One (C1).
Help! Please help me identify the Tiny White Flowers in the image above. The flower stalks were about 12-18 inches (30-45cm) high with no leaves on them that I remember. The white flowers were about 1/4 inch (6mm) across.
