July 12, 2010, a Monday
near Cottonwood Pass (Stage Stop Meadows), Colorado, USA
— Up over Cottonwood Pass to photograph wildflowers
We took it easy this morning with the idea of staying in the RV and having a big breakfast. When we got out of bed, conditions were perfect for wildflower photography: calm and overcast! I decided to go photograph the flowers and J decided to stay in the RV. I made instant coffee to go and grabbed some Clif Bars and left in the Jeep around 9:15.

I headed up towards Cottonwood Pass and the overcast turned out to be a layer of fog in the valley that I exited by 9:20. There were still scattered clouds and a very light breeze, so I kept going. I ate my Clif Bars and drank my coffee for breakfast.

I stopped to photograph some Barbey's Larkspur that had been blowing in the wind the other times we went by it. This morning, the very light breeze could be handled by using a plamp and some patience. (A Plamp™ is a fantastic plant clamp made by Wimberley that can help hold flowers still in a slight breeze.) The water drops on the blossoms were great and I was able to get a fantastic image (left).

I continued heading up and over Cottonwood Pass and went to the stream where we photographed yesterday. I photographed some King's Crown (I think) that wasn't quite open and some Splitleaf Painted-Cup (left). The breeze kept picking up and photography was becoming more and more difficult, so I left and headed back over the pass.

I returned to the RV around 11:40 and had lunch around noon while downloading the images I took this morning. Then I downselected them in Capture One (C1). I processed four images for the blog then worked up a blog entry. Then I selected images for a newsletter and started to work on the text for it.

I had dinner at 6:00 of leftover hot dogs, potato salad, and chips and salsa.

I finished most of the text for the newsletter. J went outside around 7:35 to take some pictures near our boondocking spot. She had some potato soup for dinner when she returned. I set up a workspace in Photoshop CS5 for when I use only use my laptop. I had set one up when I first upgraded from CS3 to CS5, and the saved workspace had gotten clobbered. While re-setting it up tonight, I discovered that there's a bug in Photoshop CS5 (surprise, surprise!). When I ran Window > Workspace > New Workspace..., it saved the new workspace under the current name as well as the new name! That's why my initial laptop-only workspace had gotten clobbered — it got reassigned to same workspace as the one I had set up for the laptop and my second monitor. After I got all of that straightened out, I processed two images for the blog.
