— Swift Fox Kits
We got up earlier than usual and I had my usual breakfast, but prepared the LavAzza Qualita Rossa Coffee to go.
We went out to the blind around 6:40, and it was calm and clear. Two Swift Fox kits popped up around 7:25, but disappeared back down into the den after just a few seconds. We waited some more. One kit popped up for a few seconds around 8:00 and then disappeared. No more foxes came out — what an exciting morning.
We returned to the RV around 9:45 and I did some computer work. J took a nap.
I had lunch around 12:50 of Clif Bars because I had completely lost track of the time and J was still sleeping so I didn't want to disturb her by making a sandwich. I finished a block of computer work then processed images through Capture One (C1) to convert the RAW files to TIFFs. J got out of bed, and I backed up data and cleaned up some files.
We went out to the blind around 6:05 and took dinner with us. I had some Chicken of the Sea Tuna Salad Cups and Clif Bars and J had popcorn. The tuna was a lot more peppery than the Bumble Bee Tuna Salad and Crackers. We waited and waited, and no Swift Foxes came out. We heard some coyotes howling around 8:05.
After the sun was only hitting the tops of the tall grass and bushes, we decided to pack it in for the night and move the blind to a better location for the morning. I walked over to look for a good place to put the blind, and J started to unpeg the blind. I called her over so she could look at the spot I had selected, and a Swift Fox kit came out of the den and watched her. J didn't see it and I had to point out it out to her. The kit just kept watching us even though I had to "whisper" quite loudly to get J's attention. Because the kit didn't mind us being out, we decided to get our cameras instead of moving the blind. Just after we started to photograph, a second kit came out, then a third, then a fourth. I was glad that all four kits were still alive. The kits were running around and playing, which was a nice treat, but the low light level made photography difficult. They would occasionally stop and "pose," and I was able to get some keepers. After all of the kits had gone back into their den for a while, we moved the blind to get ready for the morning.
We returned to the RV around 9:00 and I downloaded the images I took then downselected them in iView then Capture One (C1). I selected and processed an image for the blog before going to bed.
