June 7, 2010, a Monday
Sellersville to Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
— Had lunch with PM
I got up before my mother and started to work up a blog entry. After she got up, we had breakfast, and I had a bowl of Quaker Natural Granola - Oats & Honey & Raisins followed by some fresh blueberries. Then I drank a 20 fl oz (591ml) bottle of Coca Cola Classic to get my caffeine fix for the day. We left around 9:50.
We went to The Windmill Family Restaurant in Morgantown to have lunch with PM. It was a convenient place to meet about half way between my mother's place and PM's place near Lititz, not too far north of Lancaster. (My father used to refer to Lititz as "la tits.") We got there really early around 11:10 and PM arrived early too around 11:25. My parents met PM and her husband (they have since divorced) in Germany when my father was doing post-graduate work at Philipps-Universität in Marburg for 13 months. PM and her husband were over for six months as part of a group from the Church of the Brethren. My mother and PM met while taking a Deutsch für Ausländer (German for Foreigners) class and the four became great friends. I have many fond memories of us getting together when I was growing up, and PM was a mentor to me after I left Boeing. My mother hadn't seen her since my father died 17 years ago, and we had a great time together. I had the special of soup (seafood chowder) and pastrami on rye, then a piece of Shoofly Pie for dessert. Shoofly Pie is a local favorite in the Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish areas of Pennsylvania, and I love the stuff! We left around 2:45!
On the way back, we missed the exit off of US-422 that we were going to take, so we kept going and then went by the house where I grew up.
We returned to my mother's apartment around 4:15. She took a power nap and I finished the blog entry.
We picked up RoA and RaA around 5:30 and took them out ...
To the Wingwalker Inn Flight Pub in Colmar for dinner. I had the Mediterranean Salmon, with a sundried tomato pesto sauce, that was tasty. RoA and I split a piece of fried cheesecake for dessert and RaA and my mother split a hot fudge brownie with ice cream.
We took RoA and RaA home, then ...
Went to KA's around 8:00 to visit for a while. My mother and I played some Wii bowling with MA (11) and JA (9). My mother left around 9:00 and I played some Super Mario Bros on the Wii with MA and JA. It was nice to hang out with the kids who were very relaxed. My Uncle J and Aunt R came by around 10:30 to deliver something for me to take back to J. I went up to JA's room where I'd be staying around 10:40 and unwound while checking email. It was a really late night before the early morning tomorrow. :(
