September 3, 2009, a Thursday
Wasilla (D&RA), Alaska, USA
— Lunch out with RA and worked on the RV
I awoke earlier than J, so I pussy footed around the RV so she could get some more sleep. I selected and processed images for the next blog entry. Had breakfast after J got out of bed, then worked up a new blog entry. Modified this site to improve data entry. We left at 12:15 in the Jeep.

To the Krazy Moose Subs & Salads in Wasilla for lunch w/RA. I had a 5-inch hot pastrami sandwich on a tasty fresh roll. We ate out on the patio to enjoy the sunny weather and pleasant temperature. We left around 12:45.

J and I walked to a nearby used bookstore to look for a Sibley Guide to Birds so we can have one in the Jeep in addition to the RV. They didn't have one, so we walked back to the Jeep and went ...

To the Waldenbooks in Wasilla to get a Sibley Guide to Birds with our 40% off coupon for being Borders Rewards members. On the way in, we looked through some coffee-table books, one of which was a huge one with some not-frequently-seen prints by Ansel Adams. They didn't have Sibley, and couldn't order one using the coupon. We walked ...

To the Carrs grocery store next door around 2:15 so J could get a flu shot. It didn't include a vaccine for the swine flu, so J passed. We picked up a few more groceries that were on sale.

We returned to D&RA's around 3:05. I did some small jobs inside the RV, then I went outside to fix the RV step trim panel retract mechanism. I started with the 2.5-in (6.4cm) L bracket I bought yesterday at Lowe's, then used a hacksaw to cut one of the sides in half. It was a laborious process because I didn't have a vise — only some pliers to hold the part while I was sawing it. Then I drilled a third hole on the remaining long side of the bracket. I attached the short side of the bracket to the retracting mechanism with a #6 bolt and two nuts (one used as a jam nut), then mounted the L bracket onto the panel with three 3/4-inch #12 pan head screws. The mechanism worked great again! :) I started to drain the RV's fresh water tank in preparation for filling it with good-tasting water. (There was still some residual iodine left in the tank from when we had filled it up at Riley Creek Campground in Denali National Park.)

D&RA came over for dinner around 6:15. J made Kevin's Creamy Baked Chicken Breasts, broccoli slaw, and a tossed salad. We had some very tasty fresh-baked fudge brownies for dessert with vanilla ice cream. I did the dishes after D&RA went back inside.

After the RV fresh water tank finished draining, I put some fresh water into the tank, then ran all of the faucets to flush out the water in the lines with the diluted iodine-laden water. I drained the fresh tank completely again, then filled it with good water. I selected and processed images for the next blog entry before going to bed.
