October 1, 2010, a Friday
Uinta National Forest, Utah, USA
— Photographed near Brighton
We got up earlier than usual and I had bowl of Quaker Natural Granola - Oats & Honey & Raisins with Milkman powdered milk to conserve our real milk. We left in the Jeep around 7:40.
We photographed some of the fall color near us, and when I changed camera gear to try to take some pictures of a chipmunk, I pulled something in my lower back. We went up and over Guardsman Pass and stopped to photograph before reaching the Big Cottonwood Canyon road. Some tiny clouds turned into nice puffies while we were stopped there, and we enjoyed photographing with some nice clouds in the sky for a change.
Then we went to Silver Lake in Brighton and thoroughly enjoyed the yellow aspens as we hiked around the lake and photographed. Well, it would have been more enjoyable if I hadn't had to hobble around the lake with a bad back.
We returned to the RV around 11:50 and my back was killing me as I took off my boots.
I had lunch around noon while reading some of the September 2010 Outdoor Photographer. I downloaded the images I took this morning then worked up a blog entry. I won a used Garmin nüvi 765t GPS that I had sniped on eBay. :) Soon, we'll have a GPS for the RV and Jeep that will have updated maps. Bossy, our Garmin nüvi 350 GPS, is still operating on maps from 2008, and she doesn't know about a lot of POIs (Points Of Interest) and some roads. Instead of forking out money to update the map in her, we're forking out a little more money to get an updated map and a greatly updated GPS unit. My back was killing me when I tried to stand up. I downselected the images I took this morning then checked accommodation availability at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, and they're fully booked when we planned to be there. :( We took a nap around 3:15, and after I got up on the bed and started to relax, my back started to feel better. I got out of bed around 4:15 and checked accommodation availability at the other SANParks (South Africa National Parks) locations, and they were still available. J got up around 4:45 and we left in the Jeep around 4:55.
We went to the Post Office in Park City to pick up our mail, then went to a bank to deposit a check that I had received.
We went to Nacho Mama's (Mexican restaurant) around 5:50 for dinner. We both ordered the Enchilada Plate, but J got one cheese and one chicken enchilada, and I got one chicken and one beef enchilada. The chips and salsa were good but the enchiladas were very ordinary.
We stopped at the A Fresh Market to pick up some milk on the way back to the RV.
We returned to the RV around 7:10 and I contacted the seller of the APECS Trousers that I had purchased on September 3, 2010 because I still hadn't received them. We called my mother and had a nice chat. I heard from the seller of the APECS Trousers and he said he hadn't shipped them because he hasn't been able to find a pair in the size I purchased — aaahhh! I can't believe the guy listed something to sell that he didn't have in hand! He did offer to keep looking for a pair or to give me an immediate refund. I looked on eBay and the web for a pair that I could purchase, and couldn't find any. :( So, I think I'll sit and wait a bit — and also let him continue to enjoy the small loan that I've given him. I prepared a batch of coffee concentrate in my Toddy Cold Brew System before going to bed.
