— Photographed birds in Twentynine Palms
I had my normal breakfast with coffee to go, and we left at 7:20 in the Jeep.
We went to Twentynine Palms to photograph some birds that B had told us about. He was out in the area when we arrived, then he led us to the bush where a pair of verdin were making a nest. I set up to photograph them around the nest, and J set up to photograph them at a nearby tree. I started to get some interesting shots, then J turned on the verdin bird call on her iPhone, and drew the birds over to her. After she got some images, I invited J to join me so we didn't have to share the birds between two different spots. The male and female verdin kept going away to get nesting material and then returning to the nest. They would usually pause nicely before going back out again (below left). Then we started to photograph the phainopepla that were also in the area. I was able to get quite close to both a male (below right) and female phainopepla.
After we finished, we went over to use the laundry facilities where G&L-O and B&A are camped. We also borrowed the free WiFi. I took a blog entry live then worked up another one. J forgot to start her drier until mine was almost done, then had to run it for two and a half cycles to get everything dry, so we were there for a while. I downselected images from yesterday in Capture One (C1).
We went over to B&A's around noon for lunch. We had ham and cheddar sandwiches and chips and cookies for dessert. Had a nice time visiting. We left around 1:20.
We went to Stater Bros. in Twentynine Palms to grocery shop at 1:35. We left around 2:30.
We stopped at a Beacon gas station to fill up the Jeep at $2.839/gal.
We returned to the RV around 3:10.
I went outside around 3:25 to photograph the whitetail antelope squirrels. They were quite skittish and I wasn't able to get any decent shots. :( Then I went exploring among the boulders that are around the campground to look for images to take.
I went back to the RV to pick up J and we left around 4:15 in the Jeep.
We stopped just west of the campground so J could photograph the Joshua Trees and boulders. I found a decent composition with just some boulders (left).
We left after the sun had set into a thick cloud bank and started heading west to see if we could find something interesting to photograph if the clouds lit up. J found some interesting Joshua Trees, but the band of color on the clouds was rather thin.
We returned to the RV around 6:00. I downloaded the images I took today and did a quick downselect in iView.
We had dinner around 7:00 of J's Stuffed Peppers from the freezer and fresh-baked Pillsbury French Bread.
After doing the dishes, I had some Asbach Uralt while I finished downselecting images from yesterday in Capture One (C1). Then I downselected images from today in Capture One (C1).
