February 22, 2010, a Monday
Salton Sea, California, USA
— Photographed birds at the Salton Sea
We got out of bed around 6:15, earlier than J said she would. :) The wind had died down quite a bit compared to yesterday. :) I had my normal breakfast and made the coffee to go. We left in the Jeep at 6:51.
We stopped to photograph two burrowing owls at one burrow. One owl was out of the burrow the whole time (below left), and the second slowly came out, but never got in the same plane as the first. Even shooting at f16 with the 500 f4 didn't produce enough depth of field to get both birds in focus. :(
We drove around our normal loop and photographed American white pelicans, California brown pelicans, great white egrets, and several shore birds including the two greater yellowlegs above right.
We returned to the RV at 9:20. I downloaded the images from the morning and downselected them in iView. Then I worked up a blog entry.
I had lunch at 11:40, then did some computer work. We left at 4:05 in the Jeep.
We went to the parking area at the observation platform on the north end of Vendel Road because J wanted to photograph the clapper rails that frequent the area. We didn't see a one. :(
We returned to the RV around 5:55 and I got enlisted to cook dinner.
We had dinner around 6:40 of Hunt's Classic Italian Garlic & Herb Spaghetti sauce with Rosina Italian Meatballs over tri-color rotini and home-made garlic bread from the leftover whole-wheat hamburger buns.
After dinner, I downselected the images from today in Capture One (C1).
