— Went to town, then photographed quail
We took it easy this morning and I had my regular breakfast. We talked about our travel plans, then I did some office work. We left at 11:30 in the Jeep and picked up our friend Andy Baird.
We went to McDonald's in Truth or Consequences around 11:55 for lunch and so J could use their free Wi-Fi connection. I had a Big Mac meal and J had a Filet-O-Fish and fries. The service was slow — does anyone recall why they call it "fast food"? Andy and I left in the Jeep around 12:45 and ...
Went to the True Value Hardware store in town. I was really impressed! I haven't been in a real hardware store in a long time (Home Depot is in a different class), and it was nice to wander up and down the aisles to see what they carried. We had gone so Andy could buy some torx bits designed for tamper-proof heads — he's a "tamperer." :) We'll need to get some too eventually so we can open up our Lasko 5367 Ceramic Heater to clean it out periodically.
We returned to McDonald's around 1:20, and J was still busy with the Wi-Fi connection. So, Andy and I left and ...
Went to WalMart to do some shopping.
We returned to McDonald's at 2:07, and J had just been cut off from the Wi-Fi connection. We left at 2:09 and ...
Went to the Sonic Drive-In in town. I had never been to one before, but Andy recommended their Sonic Limeade Chiller, which he described as key lime pie in a cup. I got one of the Sonic Limeade Chillers and it was very tasty. J got an Oreo Sonic Blast, and Andy got a Sonic Strawberry Chiller.
Then we went to the Elephant Butte Lake State Park Visitor Center in the town of Elephant Butte so Andy could renew his annual New Mexico State Park Pass. Unfortunately, he couldn't renew because he didn't have his vehicle registration form(s) with him. Apparently, having your registration form with you is a new requirement this year.
We dropped off Andy at his RV and returned to our RV at 3:10. We prepped the RV to move, and took it over to the dump station to dump. We returned to our site, and as I was backing in, a whole bunch of quail ran away.
Instead of filling up the RV fresh water tank, I went out into the Primos Vision Blind to try to photograph the quail. Of course, they were no where to be seen by the time I got in there, so I sat and waited. After about 45 minutes, they came back. :) They weren't in a good location, so I waited some more. Eventually, they came out into a clear area, and I was able to get one, yes one, good shot (left). The sun started to go behind a dark cloud layer, so I left the blind and filled the RV fresh water tank. The quail didn't seem to mind that I was milling around.
I went inside the RV, downloaded the images I took, then downselected them in iView and Capture One (C1).
I grilled all eight (8) hotdogs from the package for dinner. Amazingly, there were 8 hotdog buns in the package too. Whatever happened to the good old days when hotdogs came 7 to a package and buns came 13 to package — or something like that. We also had potato salad and a garden salad.
After dinner, I worked up a blog entry, then we watched an episode of Desperate Housewives on DVD. Then I started to select images to submit to the Nature's Best Photography competition.
