— Took Andy to lunch, and did computer work
Had my normal breakfast, then finished up a blog entry. We left at 10:54 in the Jeep.
We went to the Post Office in Truth or Consequences so J could drop off some things.
We went to Cafe BellaLuca in Truth or Consequences at 11:30 to take our friend Andy Baird out for lunch to celebrate his birthday. I had a Moretti La Rossa and an Italian Grinder. J had a bowl of their pasta of the day which was penne in a delicious tomato-based sauce. J and I split a piece of Tiramisu for dessert, and Andy had his own piece, complete with a sparkler to acknowledge the occasion. The Tiramisu was unlike any other I've had. (I became a Tiramisu snob while in Italy.) It had the requisite layers of lady fingers and the mixture of egg yolks, mascarpone (cheese), and sugar, but the presentation was unique. It was like a build-it-as-you-go single slice instead of a slice from a sheet pan. Plus, the espresso/brandy sauce wasn't added until the dish was at the table. Despite the odd presentation, it was tasty. We said good-bye to Andy, who was going to run some of his own errands, and left at 1:15.
We went to the Truth or Consequences Public Library to use their free internet connection. They had a Cat-5 cable dangling from the ceiling in the public meeting room, but no Wi-Fi. We had known about this situation in advance, so I had brought along our Kyocera KR2 wireless router so we could share the internet connection. For some reason, it couldn't connect to the internet. So, we switched to Plan B. J plugged the Cat-5 cable into her MacBook Pro, then shared the internet connection through an AirPort network, and that worked just fine. J finished downloading her website to prepare to move it to another host. I listened to some audio CDs and did computer work. We left at 5:15.
We returned to the RV at 5:45.
I had dinner of lunch stuff (salami and Swiss on rye) while doing more computer work. Shortly before going to bed around 1:30, I bid on, and won, a Quantum Turbo 2x2 Battery and Quantum Cable CZ to power a Canon Speedlite that were on auction at eBay. I had been planning to bid on a regular Quantum Turbo Battery with a Quantum Cable CZ that was ending tomorrow, but decided to go for the better 2x2 battery. It has more capacity and a faster recharge rate than the regular Turbo, plus it's designed to power two devices so I won't have to make or buy a splitter cable like the Quantum QT48 cable.
