November 19, 2009, a Thursday
City of Rocks State Park, New Mexico, USA
— Explored the park, moved the RV, moved the RV back, and photographed
Had my normal breakfast. Started to work up a blog entry. We left around 9:45 and ...
Walked around the loop. It was the first time we had seen the park in the light, and it was fantastic. The "rocks" are clustered huge boulders that remind me of Joshua Tree National Park. We checked out the Pegasus campground loop, and there were lots of birds there. There was also a nice campsite (Site 17, Cetus) that would provide better solar-electric power than where we were camped. We checked out the Visitor Center, then ...
Returned to the RV around 10:50.
I took the Jeep to check out the Verizon cell phone signal at Site 17, Cetus, and my Palm Treo 755p indicated a decent EVDO signal (good for Broadband Access through our sticks).
We prepped the RV to move, then moved ...
To Site 17, Cetus. We were in position and level by 11:15. I went up on the roof of the RV to tilt the solar-electric panels. After that, we were getting 24-some amps instead of the 14-some amps. :) Unfortunately, the Verizon USB sticks weren't getting much of a signal. :( I showered.
Had lunch at 12:00. I did some computer work, and the internet access through our Verizon sticks kept dropping out. :( We decided to move back to Site 35, and J left in the Jeep at 2:40 to see if it was still available. It was, so I finished prepping the RV to move and left at 2:48 in the RV.
We returned to Site 35, Camelopardalis, leveled, and detilted the solar-electric panels. I thought we could leave them tilted towards the driver's side to help collect the late-afternoon light, but the sun was almost directly behind the rear of the RV and tilting won't help. After J finished photographing the area, I left in the Jeep and ...
Photographed the rocks at the southern part of the loop. I was drawn to the lone boulder sitting atop the other rocks (left), and photographed it using my 90 Tilt/Shift to align the plane of focus along the rocks and a polarizer to darken the sky. Then I continued around the loop and photographed some other formations.
I returned to the RV and picked up J to go photograph some more.
We took the Jeep over to Observation Point where there is another cluster of rocks. It was nice to be able to photograph the rocks without having to worry about picnic tables, and such, in the image. The clouds that had been forming in the afternoon started vanishing, and the sky was almost clear at sunset. :(
We returned to the RV around 5:25. I downloaded the images I took and downselected them in Capture One (C1).
We had dinner at 6:00 of leftover pork chops and angel hair pasta and fresh broccoli. It was tasty.
After doing the dishes, I did some computer work, then started to work up a blog entry.
