October 14, 2009, a Wednesday
Parker (K), Colorado, USA
— RV serviced and a MHWPC meeting
We got up earlier than usual so we could take the RV to get serviced. We prepped the RV, then left at 7:55 with me in RV following J in the Jeep.
We took the RV to Extreme Auto in Parker to get a 100k service performed on the RV. Yes, the RV has lots of miles on it! We left in the Jeep and went ...
To the Village Inn restaurant in Parker for breakfast. I had a Denver Omelet, and J had the Village Inn Breakfast (scrambled eggs, hash browns, and pancakes). It was nice to relax over breakfast that someone else prepared and would clean up. :) J boxed up her pancakes to go. After we finished breakfast, we participated in their Free Slice Wednesday program where they give away a free slice of pie to every customer who buys something. Usually the hours of the promotion are from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, but the hours weren't on their online ad, and the local manager honors requests all day. :) J got, and ate, a slice of Oreo Cookie Crunch pie and I got a slice Triple Berry pie (blueberry, raspberry, and boysenberry) to go. We left around 9:15 and went ...
To the Parker Library to wait for the RV service to be completed. We enjoyed the free wireless internet connection, but it was a bit slow. I worked up some blog entries. J left around 10:45 to go to a dentist appointment. J returned around 12:30, and we left around 12:45 and went ...
To Panera Bread for lunch. I had a Chipotle Chicken sandwich, and J had Corn Chowder and a Greek Salad.
We returned to the Parker Library around 1:30. I went inside and J left in the Jeep to run some errands. I did some computer work. Extreme Auto called around 3:00 to let me know that they wouldn't be able to finish all of the work today, so I had them finish the most critical work, and we'll take it back another time to finish the rest of the work. J returned from her errands, and we went ...
To Extreme Auto around 4:00 to settle the bill before they were finished working on the RV. They would lock the keys in the RV when they finished the work later in the day.
We went to REI at Park Meadows so I could return my Vasque Summit GTX Hiking boots that had a broken quick-lace bracket. There was no hassle, and I picked up a replacment pair. They didn't have any of the REI Ultra Seal Waterproofing Treatment that I've been using for years, so I picked up a can of Nikwax Conditioner for Leather that the salesman recommended — we'll see how it works. I also picked up a box of Cool Mint Chocolate Clif Bars. :) WalMart sells the Chocolate Peanut Crunch and Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Clif Bars at a great price, but they don't sell the Cool Mint Chocolate.
We went to Hacienda Colorado, a "Mountain-Mex" restaurant, for dinner around 5:00 with some friends from the Mile High Wildlife Photography Club (MHWPC). I had a Negra Modelo, my usual dark Mexican beer, to go with the Chicken Enchiladas with Ranchera sauce, and J had Crispy Chicken Flautas.
We went to The Wildlife Experience for the Mile High Wildlife Photography Club (MHWPC) meeting at 7:00. The program, by our friends Gordon and Cathy Illg, was on the "Nuts & Bolts" of nature photography. Gordon gave the program, and everyone enjoyed his dry sense of humor. After a break, Gordon judged the images for the monthly competition. J came in first in the Masters division for the Open category with her Artemis (below left) photographed in Willow, Alaska, in August 2009 and processed with Topaz Simplify. She also came in first for the Wildlife category with her Avocet Altercation (below right) photographed at Antelope Island State Park, Utah, in May 2009. I received an Honorable Mention in the Masters division for the Wildlife category with my Bull Porcupine Caribou photographed in Denali National Park and Preserve at the end of August 2009 (left). For the record, I think J's avocets are much more interesting than my caribou.

Returned "home" around 10:10 — a long day.
